We choose from published evidence: makers' disclosures, certifiers' records, government guidance and reputable design coverage. We have not used, sat on or tested these pieces ourselves. This piece contains no affiliate links yet; when it does, they will be disclosed here.
Last checked: October 19, 2026. Materials, warranties and prices were read on the maker's own site on that date, and certifications on the certifier's own records. Many of these houses sell to the trade or through dealers and do not publish prices; where that is the case, we say so.
A terrace on the Palm Beach coast asks more of a chair than any living room does. Salt rides in on the wind and settles on every surface. The sun is high for most of the year, the air is wet, and from June to November a storm can send anything loose flying. The furniture worth buying here is the kind whose materials you can name, whose maker says plainly what they are, and whose warranty you have actually read.
This guide starts with the materials, because the material decides how a piece will look in five years. Then come seven pieces from the great outdoor houses, chosen from the evidence, and a word on what to do with all of it before a hurricane.
The materials, plainly
Stainless steel: 316, not just "stainless." Stainless steel is a family, and the grade matters by the sea. The International Molybdenum Association (IMOA), the industry body for the alloying metal in question, explains that Type 316 differs from Type 304 by a molybdenum addition, which gives 316 resistance to chlorides. Its guidance: within five to ten miles of a large saltwater body, Type 316 "is often the most cost effective choice if corrosion-free performance is desired" 1. IMOA also notes that corrosion rates are generally highest within 400 to 600 meters (about 1,300 to 2,000 feet) of the shoreline and rise sharply within the closest 50 to 200 meters, and that salt on a surface can begin to form a corrosive solution at humidity as low as 45 percent 2. Two more points from IMOA matter on a covered loggia. Sheltered spots that are not cleaned regularly are more likely to corrode than exposed ones. Smoother finishes hold less dirt and resist corrosion better than rough ones 1.
Read the spec sheet, because the great houses do not all use the same grade. Gloster says it uses 304-grade stainless steel with an electro-polished brushed finish 19. JANUS et Cie lists "304 Passivated Stainless Steel Hardware" on its Serengeti chair 35. Paola Lenti specifies AISI 316 for the visible stainless parts of its Frame series 24. None of this makes 304 a poor choice everywhere. It means that if you are close to the beach and your stainless will sit under a roof, you should ask for 316. Whatever the grade, rinse it. IMOA warns against cleaners containing hydrochloric (muriatic) acid, and notes that some products sold as stainless steel cleaners contain chlorides or acids that can cause corrosion 1.
Teak, and what "FSC" does and does not tell you. Gloster and Tribù both credit teak's high natural oil content for its stability outdoors 1740, and Tribù advises against oil or varnish, which it says often does more harm than good 40. Left outside, it weathers to silver-grey as the pigments in its surface fade; Gloster says the grain will also rise slightly after the first few soakings 18, and Tribù calls the patina a cosmetic change that does not affect the wood's strength 40. Gloster recommends letting teak weather and cleaning it once or twice a year 18; for those who prefer the golden colour, Tribù offers a sealer 40.
You will see teak sold as "Grade A." We found no published standard behind those letter grades, so read the grade as the maker's own description. More useful is what a maker says about where and how its teak is chosen. Gloster, for example, says it sources from the state-owned Perum Perhutani plantations in East Java, and that its graders choose logs with the fewest defects and a minimum age of about 35 years 17.
The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certifies responsible forest management and the chain of custody from forest to finished product. An "FSC 100%" label means all the material comes from FSC-certified forests; "FSC Mix" means a mix of certified, recycled and FSC-controlled material 3. Two cautions. First, a company's chain-of-custody certificate allows it to use certified material in "part, or all" of its production 4, so a certified maker does not mean every piece is certified; ask whether the piece you are buying is sold with an FSC claim. Second, FSC itself reported in 2023 that the first phase of a review of certified teak supply chains found "a high possibility of integrity risks". Its preliminary results showed more teak bought by certificate holders than certified forests had sold, and some European supply chains that could not be traced back to the forest. FSC also noted there were no FSC-certified forest operations selling teak from Myanmar 5. Our practice is to look up every FSC claim on FSC's own search, and we suggest you ask for the licence code and do the same.
Powder-coated aluminum. Gloster calls aluminum a light, tough metal with an excellent strength-to-weight ratio and corrosion resistance 20. On outdoor furniture, the protection is in the finish and what lies beneath it. Gloster, for instance, says it pre-treats its aluminum with a chrome conversion coating before applying an electrostatic powder coat 20; Brown Jordan says its artisans weld, grind and polish each joint before powder coating 29, and its residential warranty covers a finish that peels or blisters within 15 years 30. Ask a maker two questions: how the metal is pre-treated, and how long the finish itself is warranted. Royal Botania puts the coastal point simply: by the sea, its furniture "may need extra protection against salt air and moisture," and choosing corrosion-resistant materials and cleaning regularly matter 43.
Solution-dyed acrylic fabric (Sunbrella). Sunbrella, made by Glen Raven, says its "Color to the Core" technology saturates each fiber of every yarn with UV-stable pigments 13, and that its solution-dyed upholstery fabrics reduce wastewater compared with conventional coloring processes 9. On certifications, Sunbrella says its upholstery fabrics are GREENGUARD certified for low chemical emissions 9. We checked UL's SPOT database: the record for Sunbrella Contract 100% Sunbrella Acrylic fabric (Glen Raven Custom Fabrics) lists GREENGUARD Gold Certification, document 45038-420, valid until August 14, 2027 (checked October 19, 2026) 11. GREENGUARD Gold is a certification for low chemical emissions into indoor air; it is not a statement about anything else in the fabric, and the record covers that contract fabric, so ask which fabric is on the piece you buy. Sunbrella's site also prints an OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 number, 19.HUS.73033 9. When we looked that number up on OEKO-TEX's Label Check on October 19, 2026, it showed as expired 10, so we do not claim it.
Two more details are worth knowing. In 2023 Glen Raven announced that it was phasing PFAS chemicals out of its fabric finishes, with all production moving to non-PFAS chemistry by the end of that year. It said the change would reduce oil repellency, and it introduced a cleaner for oil-based stains 13. We did not find a current statement on Sunbrella's own site confirming the change was complete. And on mildew, a constant in Florida, Sunbrella says mildew grows on dirt, pollen and other organic matter, and that routine cleaning keeps it from forming 12. Sunbrella is usually a component of a cushion or chair, so a warranty claim goes through the dealer or maker you bought the finished piece from 12.
Synthetic woven fiber ("resin wicker"). The woven pieces built to live outdoors use synthetic fibers rather than natural rattan, and the makers differ in how much they tell you. DEDON says its fiber outperforms natural rattan and wicker, that it produces the fiber in-house in Germany, that it resists UV, saltwater, chlorine and extreme temperatures without cracking or fading, and that every piece is hand-woven at its facilities on Cebu in the Philippines 31; it does not name the polymer on the pages we read. Tribù's Nodi rope is Canax, which Tribù describes as a combination of PVC and natural hemp 38. Paola Lenti's Rope Treccia 95, the braid it uses on its Frame series, is 100 percent polyolefin 26. Look at the warranty for the weave as well as the frame: Brown Jordan warrants its aluminum frames for 15 years but a woven resin weave for 3 30, and Gloster warrants wicker and outdoor rope for 2 years against 5 for teak and aluminum 21.
Quick-dry foam. A cushion that holds water after a summer downpour stays damp for days. Outdoor cushions built for this use open-cell foam that drains. JANUS et Cie says its cushions use "an open-cell, quick-dry foam" engineered for water drainage and air circulation 35; Paola Lenti's Frame seat pad is open-cell polyurethane 24. Even so, Gloster's warranty notes that cushions may retain water in prolonged rain 21. Cushions also carry the shortest warranties in this category: one year listed at JANUS et Cie 36, two at Gloster 21 and five on Brown Jordan's cushion fabric 30.
Before a storm
Palm Beach County's hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30 14. The county's checklist asks residents, a month before the season, to assess whether lawn furniture or other items should be removed before a storm; during a hurricane watch, to bring in outdoor furniture; and if you leave, to move patio furniture inside your garage or home 14. FEMA's Ready.gov likewise says to bring in outside furniture 15, and the National Weather Service says the best time to prepare is before the season begins 16.
The makers' warranties point the same way; these are our summaries of each maker's published terms, so read the full warranty before you buy. JANUS et Cie makes removing furniture in high winds or severe climates the owner's responsibility, and a condition of keeping its warranty in effect 36. Brown Jordan excludes damage from acts of nature such as high winds, and defects from extreme climate conditions 30. Gloster excludes damage from improper storage 21. So when you buy, think about where each piece will go when a watch is issued. Weight cuts both ways: a heavy piece is hard to move in the hours after a watch, and a light one is exactly the kind of loose item the county wants brought in 14. A plan for storing each piece is part of choosing it.
This section is general information, not safety, insurance or legal advice. For your own property, follow the current guidance of Palm Beach County's Division of Emergency Management 14, FEMA 15 and the National Weather Service 16, and any instructions from local officials.
How we chose
We looked for houses that state the materials of each piece on their own sites, then for independent coverage, then for certifications, which we checked on the certifier's own records on October 19, 2026. For this edition we could not reach Architectural Digest, Veranda, Elle Decor or House Beautiful, so the coverage cited here is from Galerie and Wallpaper*. We did not count sponsored features (marked "In Partnership With") as coverage, and we treat Galerie's 2024 Royal Botania launch piece, illustrated with the maker's own photographs, as an announcement rather than independent coverage. Where a claim is the maker's own, we say so. Several houses here sell through dealers and showrooms and do not publish prices; we say so rather than guess. We could not read Kettal's site this time, so it does not appear.
The picks
1. Paola Lenti Frame chaise longue
Why it earns a place. For a terrace that takes salt spray, the most to-the-point specification in this guide. Paola Lenti, founded in 1994 and based in Meda, Italy, describes itself as distinguished by its exclusive textiles 25, and the Frame series, designed by F. Rota, also includes chairs, armchairs, benches, side tables and modular pieces 24.
Material and origin. Aluminium sections with visible parts in AISI 316 stainless steel, upholstered in Paola Lenti's Rope, Aquatech or Twiggy braid; the seat pad is open-cell polyurethane and the loose cushion is recycled polyester fibre in a waterproofed cover, according to Paola Lenti 24. Its Rope Treccia 95 braid, made to upholster the Frame series, is 100 percent polyolefin 26. The company is headquartered in Meda, Italy 25; the country of manufacture is not stated on the pages we read.
Certifications. None stated for this piece 24. Paola Lenti S.r.l. holds a valid FSC chain-of-custody certificate covering garden tables, benches and chairs (checked on FSC's database on October 19, 2026) 8. That is a company-level certificate for wooden garden furniture; it makes no claim for this all-metal-and-rope chaise.
Price. Not published on Paola Lenti's site (checked October 19, 2026); sold through Paola Lenti's distributors, which the company says are in more than 60 countries 25.
Where to buy. Find the nearest dealer with the store locator on Paola Lenti's site 25.
Who it suits. A pool deck or oceanfront terrace where stainless will see spray, and a buyer who wants colour.
2. Brown Jordan Calcutta Lounge Chair
Why it earns a place. An American house that has made outdoor furniture since 1945 29, and a design with a long history. Brown Jordan describes Calcutta as a re-introduction, on a grander scale, of a design originally created in 1967, with cast bamboo patterns on the seat and back inspired by Chippendale 28.
Material and origin. Extruded, wrought or cast aluminum, hand-forged, welded, ground and polished, according to Brown Jordan 28, which says its pieces are made by artisans at its North American manufacturing facility; it does not name the location on the pages we read 29. The lounge chair stands 35¾ inches high and 29 inches wide 27.
Certifications. None stated 27. Nothing to check.
Warranty. In North America, Brown Jordan's residential warranty covers cast and extruded aluminum frames for 15 years, including a finish that peels or blisters, and fabric on cushions for 5; outside North America it lists 5 years on aluminum frames 30.
Price. From around $4,895 at Brown Jordan as of October 2026; that is the starting MSRP, and finish and fabric choices change it 27.
Where to buy. Find the nearest dealer through "Where to Buy" on Brown Jordan's site 27.
Who it suits. A traditional Palm Beach house, and a buyer who wants aluminum with a long, plainly written frame warranty.
3. DEDON MBRACE lounge chair
Why it earns a place. A house built around its own woven fiber, which DEDON says it makes in Germany, with every piece hand-woven in the Philippines 31. In Wallpaper*, Catherine Shaw described Sebastian Herkner's MBRACE as having an intriguing transparent triaxial weave and cocoon-like forms, and noted that its teak legs marked the first time DEDON had used timber in a product; prototypes were made by hand at DEDON's Cebu workshop 34.
Material and origin. Hand-woven DEDON Fiber with teak, and an optional die-cast aluminum base 47. DEDON says it produces the fiber in-house in Germany and weaves every piece by hand on Cebu, in the Philippines 31. Its care guidance: a soft cloth or brush, warm water and a gentle cleanser; no alcohol or solvents 32.
Certifications. None stated 32. We found no DEDON record in FSC's database (checked October 19, 2026). DEDON says it labels each of its products with a California Proposition 65 warning, and names nickel among the listed chemicals that are components or byproducts in many of its products 33. Nickel (metallic) is on California's current Proposition 65 list (July 31, 2026 edition) 51.
Warranty. DEDON's page says it warrants the product to the original purchaser against defective materials and workmanship; it does not state a period on that page 32.
Price. Not published on DEDON's US site (checked October 19, 2026); sold through DEDON stores and dealers 32.
Where to buy. Find the nearest DEDON store or dealer with "Where to buy" on DEDON's site, which also has a German edition for buyers in Europe 32.
Who it suits. A lounge corner that wants the look of a woven chair in a fiber made for outdoor use.
4. Gloster Deck dining table
Why it earns a place. A teak house whose roots, Gloster says, go back to 1960, and which moved its factory to Indonesia in the late 1980s for plantation-grown teak 48. It gives an unusually full account of where its wood comes from. The Deck table is designed by Henrik Pedersen 22, and Gloster says the Deck tables were inspired by teak decking on the finest sailing vessels of yesteryear 49. Gloster's newer work has drawn editorial attention: Galerie included its 2026 Ithaca collection among the outdoor debuts of Milan Design Week 23.
Material and origin. Solid plantation teak, according to Gloster 49, which says its teak comes from the state-owned Perum Perhutani plantations of East Java and is milled at its factory in Indonesia 17.
Certifications. The Deck pages make no FSC claim 2249. On FSC's database, PT. Gloster Furniture, in East Java, holds a valid chain-of-custody certificate, FSC-C023563, listing garden furniture as FSC 100% (checked October 19, 2026; valid until August 9, 2031) 6. That certificate is the company's, not a claim for this table 4. Ask the reseller whether your table is sold with an FSC claim.
Warranty. Five years on teak, aluminum, stainless steel and powder coat; two on wicker, rope and cushions; products must come from an authorized reseller 21.
Price. Not published; quote only, from Gloster and its authorized resellers (checked October 19, 2026) 22.
Where to buy. Find the nearest authorized reseller with the store finder on Gloster's site; its US arm is in South Boston, Virginia 21.
Who it suits. The long lunch under an awning. Note that Gloster's stainless steel is 304-grade 19; if you choose a Gloster piece with stainless parts for an oceanfront deck, rinse them often.
5. JANUS et Cie Serengeti lounge chair
Why it earns a place. A house with showrooms across the US, including Coral Gables, as well as London and Milan 37, and a Philippe Starck design. JANUS et Cie describes it as solid premium teak with visible joinery and Craftsman and Scandinavian influences 35. Galerie featured JANUS et Cie's Bollaro tables by Sebastian Herkner among the 2026 Milan Design Week outdoor debuts 23.
Material and origin. Premium teak frame, elastic-strap seat, polyvinyl mesh back and 304 passivated stainless steel hardware, according to JANUS et Cie; its cushions use an open-cell, quick-dry foam 35. The country of manufacture is not stated on the pages we read.
Certifications. None stated for this piece 35. In FSC's database, JANUS et Cie appears as a site on Haworth, Inc.'s chain-of-custody certificate, which lists only office furniture (checked October 19, 2026) 7. That certificate does not apply to this teak chair, and we make no FSC claim for it.
Warranty. Three years on furniture frames and one year listed for textiles, cushions and pillows (another paragraph on the same page says cushions are not covered, so ask before you buy); teak greying, raised grain and season splits are not counted as defects, and removing furniture in high winds is the owner's responsibility 36.
Price. Around $7,955 at JANUS et Cie as of October 2026, shown in stock with the standard Asti/Whitewash cushion fabric selected; premium cushion fabrics are "contact for pricing". The same page also says cushions are required and sold separately, so confirm with JANUS et Cie whether the price includes cushions 35.
Where to buy. JANUS et Cie's own showrooms, including Coral Gables, Florida, and in Europe, London and Milan 37.
Who it suits. A covered loggia and a buyer who wants a price shown online (confirm what it includes) and a showroom within driving distance. By the beach, keep the stainless hardware rinsed.
6. Tribù Nodi lounger
Why it earns a place. A Belgian house that works with teak, metal and rope, and a lounger its designers chose for their own beach house. In Wallpaper*, Rosa Bertoli toured Yabu Pushelberg's home on the protected dunes of Amagansett, where George Yabu and Glenn Pushelberg say the Nodi loungers and armchairs were among the first pieces they brought in. These are their own designs for Tribù, so read that as the designers' choice, not an independent verdict 41.
Material and origin. Twisted, interlaced Canax rope, a combination of PVC and natural hemp, stretched across a powder-coated stainless ("inox") frame, according to Tribù 38; the grade of stainless is not stated. Tribù says its metal finishes are developed to withstand UV and sea air, and should be cleaned with clear water and a pH-neutral detergent 39. Tribù is based in Bilzen-Hoeselt, Belgium, with a US company, Tribù America, in Texas 38. For teak instead, Tribù's Kos lounger is Javanese plantation teak, adjustable to five positions 46.
Certifications. None stated 38. We found no Tribù record in FSC's database (checked October 19, 2026).
Warranty. Three years against manufacturing and material errors on Tribù products, except cushions, protective covers and textiles, from purchase through an official Tribù trading partner 50.
Price. Not published on Tribù's site (checked October 19, 2026); sold through Tribù dealers 38.
Where to buy. Find the nearest dealer with "Find a dealer" on Tribù's site 38.
Who it suits. A beach house that wants an open, airy lounger. Ask the dealer which stainless grade the frame uses before it goes near the water.
7. Royal Botania Mambo Lounge
Why it earns a place. A Belgian house 45 that says that, for wood, it works exclusively with teak, and that it plants and maintains its own forests in Southeast Asia 44. When Royal Botania launched its low seating in 2024, Galerie's announcement, illustrated with Royal Botania's own photographs, described the Mambo low lounge chairs as having "curved warm wooden frames made from A-grade sustainable teak" 45. We read that as a launch announcement rather than an independent review, and "A-grade" and "sustainable" are not terms we could check against any standard or certificate (see the FSC note below).
Material and origin. Warm wooden contours on a concealed steel frame, according to Royal Botania 42; the type of steel is not stated, so ask before buying for an oceanfront terrace. Designed by Kris Van Puyvelde 42.
Certifications. None stated 42. We found no Royal Botania record in FSC's database (checked October 19, 2026), so we make no FSC or sustainability claim for its teak.
Warranty. Not found on the pages we read. Royal Botania's own advice is to cover or store its furniture in harsh weather, and to choose corrosion-resistant materials and clean regularly by the coast 43.
Price. Not published on Royal Botania's site (checked October 19, 2026); sold through Royal Botania's distributors 42.
Where to buy. Find the nearest dealer with the dealer locator on Royal Botania's site 42.
Who it suits. A deep, low lounge for a garden terrace set back from the water.
Skip these if...
- You are on the sand and want stainless under a roof. IMOA's guidance favours 316 near salt water, and says sheltered spots that are not cleaned regularly are more likely to corrode 1. Of the pieces above, only Paola Lenti states 316 24.
- You cannot move it before a storm. County guidance is to bring outdoor furniture in during a hurricane watch 14, and two of these houses exclude high-wind damage or make removal the owner's job 3036.
- You want teak to stay golden without upkeep. It will turn silver-grey outdoors unless you clean and seal it 1840.
- You want certainty on certifications. Of the seven makers, only Gloster's and Paola Lenti's companies turned up FSC certificates covering garden furniture when we searched FSC's records on October 19, 2026 68, and a company certificate is not a guarantee for each piece 4.
